Destiny writer Joshua Rubin has left Bungie to work with Telltale Games on its upcoming Game of Thrones title. Fans will presumably be hoping he’s not the guy responsible for “those Wizards came from the Moon”.
”It’s a privilege to be working on Telltale’s Game of Thrones,” Rubin said on Twitter, ”I’m a massive fan of the show.”
The writer’s previous work also includes Assassin’s Creed 2, so Rubin does have some previous experience of stories that involve a lot of stabbing. In an email chat with Gamasutra, Rubin said that while he’s proud of the work he and the Destiny writing team have done, but ”in the end, Bungie makes games about shooting aliens in the head. And while there’s a true art to ‘writing between the bullets’ ’” as Mr. Staten (fellow Destiny writer Joseph Staten) once said ’” I couldn’t turn down an offer from Telltale, to create games that are entirely about story.”
Telltale announced it was making an episodic game based on the Game of Thrones franchise last December, as part of a deal with HBO described as a ”multi-year, multi-title partnership”. The first episode is expected later this year, though we haven’t heard much regarding the actual game for a while.
