Gratuitous Space Battles was a simple but endlessly satisfying strategy challenge with possibly the best (and most accurate) title of any game ever.
Judging by this new trailer the sequel packs in even more large-scale space warfare, alongside some slightly more attractive cosmic backdrops.
As well as a new dynamic lighting system, GSB2 features what developer Cliff Harris describes as ”mock 3D” models, a bunch more objects and environmental details and increased levels of parallax - the effect of two objects, two space cruisers for example, crossing above or beneath each other.
Harris can explain it better than I can. Here’s another video, this one a nine-minute walkthrough of the main visual upgrades and changes fans can expect in the sequel.
Gratuitous Space Battles is set for release this Fall. No exact date is being bandied around just yet, but the new trailer helpfully says the release will be ”soon(ish)”.
