Flagship has a cool idea behind it. And one that sounds unique, at least to me. Rather than watching a spcae battle from afar like some omniscient super-being, you’re down on the front line on the command deck of a battle-cruiser, giving orders and watching the battle unfold outside your viewscreens.
The good stuff starts around the minute mark, when a fairly familiar space RTS turns into something really intriguing. You can find out more about the game on the official website, which confirms that it’s also coming to the Oculus Rift. A game that lets me be Admiral Adama with added VR. Be still my heart.
Early days yet, though, with the game currently planned for a 2015 launch. From the FAQ area of the site it appears that there’s a few major decisions yet to be made, like whether or not players can jump into the fight in smaller fighters and bombers.
”For the initial release of the game we’re looking at exploration, resource management, galactic strategy and tactical ship-to-ship combat,” say developers Urban Logic. ”Keeping the scope relatively small will allow us to really concentrate on these aspects of the game design. Our hope is that the game will sell well enough on initial release to allow us to expand the game into other areas.”
Along with a clarification that they won’t be releasing the game through Early Access yet because they don’t feel it would provide value for money in its current pre-alpha state, it seems like the dev team have got their heads screwed on properly.
Well worth keeping an eye on, this one.
