Publisher and developer 11 bit studios today released Frostpunk 2’s first major content update, introducing a slate of new features to its survival city builder, whose modding tools have now also exited beta. Patch 1.3 leads with a “massive” new map called The Pit, which is available in the Utopia Builder mode, challenging us to build a city around the remnants of a failed generator project.
The mode also received three new Tales, described as “optional narrative challenges featuring unique quests, storylines, and rewards.” The fully moddable scenarios task us with surviving an apocalyptic whiteout, helping refugees, and braving the perilous frostland to restore an unfinished core factory.

Frostpunk’s patch 1.3 also introduces Serenity Mode as a new difficulty option that promises “a gentler survival experience with mild weather, plentiful resources, and no faction conflict.” It allows new players to learn the game in an environment with less pressure while giving veterans a way to construct cities without the intense decision making usually required.
In addition, Frostpunk 2’s first major content update also overhauls its heat system. Temperature is now managed at a district level, while “new research, laws, and visible consequences reflect the citizenry’s response to how warmly—or coldly—they are treated.”
Lastly, Frostkit, the title’s dedicated modding tools, havs now exited beta, offering would-be modders “in-editor testing, faster iteration, and new systems that empower creators to shape the frostland in their own vision.”
More content and announcements will follow Frostpunk 2’s patch 1.3, including the sequel’s long-awaited console release.
In other news, the original game is also being reimagined in Unreal Engine 5 under the name Frostpunk 1866, and aiming for a 2027 launch.
