Here's a chance to see just what Epic's Unreal Engine 4 is capable of. French dev Koola has posted an in-engine render of a... slightly boring environment.
While it might lack the pyrotechnics normally associated with new engine demonstrations, you can still see the stunning level of detail possible, and some astonishingly lifelike tessellation.
What's more impressive is the gear this has been achieved on. Koola say they're running the tech on an Intel i7-3770 processor, with a decent but not spectacular GTX 670 card. If you were to combine this engine with a true PC beast? The possibilities are certainly intriguing.
Epic opened Unreal Engine 4 to the world at GDC this March, releasing the complete tools and code to the development community through a new subscription model. Now the agonising wait begins for games to start utilising this kind of power.
