Logging in to Steam today, you might just notice that Valve have made some big changes to the way the store is set up.
They’re calling it the Steam Discovery Update, and claim it delivers ”a smarter Home page, offering recommendations based on past purchases, recent playtime, and recommendations by friends.”
The biggest change is that the store now automatically suggests new front-page titles based on your estimated preferences, though there’s a few other additions too. The search function has been enhanced with a larger list of variables, titles you own are greyed out in any list of potential purchases and there’s a new Curators feature which lets users build up a library of recommended games. That’s one for all you Steam reviewers out there.
”We have made great efforts to increase the number of titles we can publish on Steam, which means more choices for customers,” says Valve’s Alden Kroll. ”This update introduces multiple features and functionality to help customers explore Steam’s growing catalog and find the games they are most interested in playing.”
In the bottom corner of your main Steam page you’ll note a new list of tags recommended for you. Incidentally, mine are ”Turn-Based, Post-apocalyptic, Isometric, Cyberpunk, Sci-fi”. Which… yeah, okay, you got me Valve.
