Like a certain other game with ‘Souls’ in the title, Acid Nerve’s pixel adventure Titan Souls wants to kill you. Many, many times. After all, when you’re up against a variety of gorgeously titanic boss creatures, a bow and one single arrow doesn’t sound like much of an arsenal.
The game’s coming to PAX Prime this week, and the developers have released an intriguing new trailer giving us a glimpse at its majestic, faded world.
Your hero in Titan Souls has one health point and one arrow. Seems a bit harsh. Like Dark Souls, dodging about like a mad gymnast is the order of the day, pinging off an arrow when you have the time then desperately rushing to retrieve it. Okay, you can summon your arrow back by tapping a button, but it takes a looooong time to come back to you when you’ve got a tentacled plant monster trying to crush you into the ground. Looks like a real challenge.
The art design is beautiful too, bringing to mind the melancholy grandeur of Shadow of the Colossus. One to keep an eye on as it heads towards a planned 2015 release on PC and consoles.
