has posted a roadmap for Don't Starve, specifically the new multiplayer expansion Don't Starve Together. The studio is going to give beta keys to all 80,000 registrations who signed up.
There's also free content on the horizon with Through the Ages, which is out in Spring 2015. For those who really want in the beta, Klei has announced the Frontier Pack for 'safe' purchases.
Instead of fans risking back alley marketplaces for beta keys, Klei are going to sell the Frontier Pack for $4.99 if you own the original game and want in the beta. For those who aren't already owners then it's priced at $19.99 as it includes the original game and two beta keys for Don't Starve Together.
"In the run up to the holiday season, we’ve decided to open up the Beta to everyone who signed up for our initial Beta test. Between today and December 15, 2014, we will be sending invites to everyone in the initial batch of beta signups. That equates to about 65,000 people, each of whom will get 2 keys."
The free content due next year is designed to make things more challenging since some worlds are lasting far longer than the studio like. "Specifically, worlds are lasting not just months but years, and those who are behind the scenes are unhappy with how easy-going the inhabitants have become."
Don't Starve Together is planned as a free multiplayer expansion to Don't Starve, and so doesn't need to be purchased to receive it at launch. Only if you're impatient and want beta access should you buy the Frontier Pack. "Since we launched the Closed Beta a couple months ago, we’ve consistently been asked for an official channel to get into the Beta. We created the Frontier Pack to create this official channel, without opening the flood gates completely," explained the developer.
