Ghost Games' upcoming street racer Need for Speed will require an always-on internet connection to play. This is a little annoying, but the developer says it's for a good reason. I'll let you decide whether you agree or not.
"We’ve been pretty big with Autolog throughout the years and, as we know, it’s a really powerful feature," the game's executive producer Marcus Nilsson told OXM in a recent interview. "This time around we’re going to give it more of a human voice. It will treat your friend’s play as if it is part of the narrative experience."
Autolog has been a major part of the series' focus on social elements for a while now, so this isn't a major surprise. This game also adds a new snapshot system, where you can gain in-game cash for 'likes' on photos you upload.
Nilsson doesn't elaborate entirely on how the social elements will tie into the narrative, but hopefully they will be robust enough to make the internet requirement tolerable.
