Blizzard has gone and registered a trademark for something called "Compete", which as it turns out is actually some sort of eSport tournament creation system.
The wording of the trademark in question refers to "Providing an online non-downloadable Internet-based system application featuring technology enabling users to organize and promote e-sports tournaments, to create and customize tournament brackets and ladders, track tournament progress, maintain related statistics, and post results."
Given Blizzard's burgeoning portfolio of eSports titles such as Heroes of the Storm, StarCraft II and the perilously addictive Hearthstone, it seems likely that Compete will be used as a supportive mechanism for these games.
The registration of the trademark for Compete comes just days after Blizzard announced the latest expansion for their long-running MMORPG World of Warcraft, titled Legion, at Gamescom.
Expect to hear an announcement regarding Compete in the near future.
