While DayZ creator Dean Hall has just unveiled his new space-based survival ‘sandbox’ ION at E3 this week, he’s also let slip that a virtual reality project is in the pipeline at his studio RocketWerkz. He’s working with Valve’s SteamVR.
ION is in development with UK-based Improbable, who joked Hall’s VR project is ‘in your head’ - but it’s almost certainly got the greenlight. ”… told Valve I’d do it,” he remarked.
There are zero details about the VR project itself other than a commitment to work with SteamVR. How did this little arrangement happen? ”Chet Faliszek was like a huge mentor to me,” Hall explained.
”He contacted me very early on in DayZ’s development and he’s been all through everything - he’s been a huge mentor. And I actually got a chance to seem him speak, and I spoke myself, at Slush Play in Iceland. And, to be honest, that was the final convincing for me. So I really liked what he had to say.”
It’s safe to say this VR whatever-it-is won’t be ION related.
