Warshift, an experimental blend of action, RTS and RPG gameplay elements, is now available on Steam Early Access. The idea behind developer Cyril Megem’s hybrid game is quite a cool one; you build up your base and manage your forces from on high as in a traditional RTS, then jump down into the action in a mech, tank, flyer, or even just as an unfortunate infantry grunt.
As you play, each of your main characters and vehicles can be upgraded with new skills and abilities. A very ambitious concept, and doubly impressive considering it’s the work of just one man.
”I came up with idea of this game a long time ago,” explains Megem. ”Once, I’m decided to stop just to dream, but to make it real. Being a professional artist, game designer and programmer, I spent 10 years of my life working for many game companies. Finally I decided to leave my last job, staying home like a hermit for a while, and focusing on my own game title. The game you see here is a result of my personal day to day hard work over a 3 years. That was my personal challenge, but I’m pretty sure I can do even more with community’s help.”
My blood runs cold even thinking about how much work it is for one person to come up with something this complex. Warshift is currently playable, but not content complete. Megem is seeking feedback from players of the Early Access edition over on the game’s website.
You can find out more about Megem’s Early Access plans on Warshift’s Steam page, where the game’s available for £14.99.
