Virtual reality hardware developer Oculus has announced in a press release that their debut headset, the Rift, is finally finished, and that they will be sending the device out to developers, alongside the 1.0 version of the SDK.
Oculus addressed developers directly in the statement, "If you’re shipping a Rift title in Q1, you’ll need early access to Rift hardware and new platform features to finalize your game or application. The Rift SDK 1.0 and runtime include features tied to the consumer product, so we’ve currently limited the release to developers putting final touches on launch titles."
There is no price yet for the Oculus Rift. The company wanted a $300 price tag, but reports are that the device will cost more than $350. It will be bundled with EVE: Valkyrie at the very least.
2016 will see the launch of many virtual reality hardware devices, including the HTC Vive (Steam's official VR headset), the PlayStation VR, and Microsoft's Hololens.
