Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 creator Scott Cawthon has revealed a few details about the game’s upcoming Halloween update, which will be an ”automatic update” rather than DLC.
It will contain a number of goodies for those who’ve survived until night six in the cult horror game, including a cheat menu, a challenge menu and a new twist on a familiar minigame with a set of new stars to earn.
”That part will be released for certain,” says Cawthon, ”and I’m hoping to have something else in addition to it, but it may not be ready. I have something fun in mind, a new game (not FNaF5), but it will be a real challenge to have even a small playable portion by Oct 31st. If a playable demo isn’t ready by then, then at the very least there will be some sneak-peak content.”
What the developer isn’t revealing is what’s in the box. At the end of the seventh night in FNaF4, players discover a box that so far no one has been able to open. Cawthon says the secret to doing so is in the game, but since players managed to figure out previous easter eggs in the series at lightning speed, he’s enjoying having this one stay a mystery.
”The story remains completely hidden,” he writes. ”I guess most people assumed that I filled the game with random easter eggs this time. I didn’t. What’s in the box? It’s the pieces put together. But the bigger question is- would the community accept it that way? The fact that the pieces have remained elusive this time strikes me as incredible, and special, a fitting conclusion in some ways, and because of that, I’ve decided that maybe some things are best left forgotten, forever.”
Bet someone’s already found out what’s in it by the time I write this.
