Hard West certainly has the potential to be something really special. After all, as concepts go, 'XCOM in the Wild West' has to be up there as one of the very best.
In this new video, the game's producer and writer Pawel Kroenke talks us through a typical bank heist, and explains the many, many ways it can go wrong. Especially when demons become involved.
There are lots of cool ideas here. One is the way each level begins – back tellers and the like aren't immediately hostile, so you have a chance to get the drop on them and disarm them before all hell breaks loose.
It's not a stealth mechanic so much as a tactical one; “Combat in Hard West is fast and decisive,” explains Kroenke. “A single well-placed shot is often enough to take out an enemy, and the setup stage gives you positioning advantage.”
Advantage lets you do awesome things like ricochet bullets around corner to hit people in the head. That's something else I liked. Hard West is out later this Autumn.
