Horror fans have seen quite the resurgence in the genre happen over the past year or so. It all kicked off with the Silent Hills teaser, P.T and now you lot are getting to play a first person Resident Evil game. If that wasn’t enough, you’ve got a brand new title to look forward to – Scorn, a H.R. Giger inspired horror game.
Scorn is an atmospheric first person horror adventure game. As you can see from the teaser/screenshots, the game looks absolutely frightening. Scorn doesn’t actually feature a HUD, meaning you’ll have to pay close attention to the environmental design. Ebb Software, the developers behind this game claim the environment is a character itself, and it’s easy to see why.
Here is how Ebb Software have described part of the game in their own words:
“There is no conventional plot as we hope that every player would give their own interpretation of the events, themes and their role in this universe through exploration and interaction with the game world. The story and themes we are trying to convey get their desired effect through experience rather than exposition. Storytelling wise it is most similar to games like Metroid Prime, Dark Souls, Journey, etc.”
This horror game originally started as a Kickstarter project that failed to reach its goal of €200,000. Since then, the developers have been funded by an outside source who have allowed Ebb Software to make the game they want. The trailer below looks very good for a game that has only been in development for about a year.
If you are interested in Scorn, make sure you back it on Steam Greenlight, otherwise it may never see the light of day (on Steam anyway).
