PLAYERUNKNOWN AND BLU- sorry, not all of those words are capitalised. Bluehole, developers of the MMORPG known as TERA have announced they are working with PLAYERUNKNOWN, the developers of the Battle Royale mode for ARMA 3 and H1Z1 to create a standalone Battle Royale game.
PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS will be an open world strategic shooter, designed to be a highly competitive player vs. player (PvP) game. The game is being made using Unreal Engine 4, putting sixty-four players together on a remote island in a winner takes all showdown. It’s a bit like those books, they made movies of them, something games. Anyway, players will have to locate weapons, vehicles and supplies as they fight across an ever-changing battlefield.
”I’ve always wanted to create a standalone game based on the mod I created for the ARMA series, and working with Bluehole gives me the resources and creative freedom to build the experience I’ve always envisioned,” said Brendan Greene, aka PLAYERUNKNOWN. ”We have a great development team in place, and our goal is to create a realistic open world experience with the deep gameplay and strong combat mechanics.”
Just like in the Hunger Gam- no, wait, just like in the Battle Royale modes for ARMA 3 and H1Z1, players will start off with nothing and eventually gain all the equipment they need to kill other players.
”As huge fans of Battle Royale, our Bluehole team shares PLAYERUNKNOWN’s vision of strategic combat driven by player tactics in dynamic battlegrounds,” said Chang Han Kim, Production Director of Bluehole. ”For a title that we’ll be publishing across the globe, it made perfect sense to partner with the creator who has a proven track record of making gameplay that fans love, and the collaboration is going great—we’ve already been working hard for months on PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS.”
This game sounds like it could be amazing, but we’ll have to wait and see if it lives up to its potential. PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS is currently being developed for PC only, but we’ll keep you updated if that happens to change any time soon.
