Much was made of Konami barring Hideo Kojima from accepting the awards that his most recent game, Metal Gear Solid 5, earned in the past year. The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) will be inducting Kojima into its Hall of Fame, something the publisher won’t be able to prevent.
Other developers to be inducted include Sid Meier, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Will Wright, Peter Molyneux, Richard Garriott, and John Carmack, among others. Kojima will be the 21st developer to be inducted.
“Hideo Kojima’s career-defining works have shaped much of how the video game industry approaches cinematic storytelling and player engagement,” stated AIAS president Martin Rae in a press release. “As one of the most well-loved and well-respected designers of our time, it is a great honor for the Academy to induct him into our Hall of Fame.”
This past December, Kojima announced his next project would be a completely new IP backed by Sony. The game would be launched for PlayStation 4 and PC.
