Brawlout promises a ”return to the golden age of competitive platformer fighters.” That means it’s a lot like Smash Bros., and with a small number of competitors in that particular fighting subgenre, it might just stand out when it releases in Q1 2017.
The game will host up to eight players in local and online battles, and will feature support for ranked online tournaments as well as a full single-player campaign. The selection of animalistic fighters have unique abilities like projectiles or whip attacks, and those skills can be built into combos and more technical moves. Special attacks governed by a Rage Meter will also be in play.
“We’re all fighting game fans, so we’ve built our dream platform fighter,” says Bogdan Iliesiu, CEO at Angry Mob Games. “We’ve heard what players miss from classic fighters and what they love about new ones, and Brawlout is designed to give people the best of both worlds, whether that’s ruining friendships around the TV or going online to anger strangers in tournaments.”
Angry Mob’s output up to this point has primarily been in the mobile market, which will be a sign of caution for many. However, a game in the style of Smash with proper developer support for competitive play and tournaments (something Nintendo hasn’t been great at), definitely has room to succeed. We’ll hear about the game’s potential from some of the best players in the world soon, as Brawlout will make its public debut at the EVO Indie Showcase on July 15.
