Heads up, Commanders! We’ve got new toys for you, compliments of Long War Studios. The group has done illustrious work for the XCOM series since Firaxis and 2K originally rebooted it with XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Now, Long War Studios has pushed out two new high-caliber offerings into the Steam Community for our enjoyment. If you fancy absolute soldier skill customization or an expanded arsenal, then you’re in for a treat.
The first mod up is the Long War Perk Pack. This mod is focused on expanding perks, skills, and abilities for all soldiers, gear, and aliens in the game. Here’s a few of the highlights you’ll get out of the Perk Pack:
-70 new and reworked abilities to assign.
-Choice between three perks per soldier level instead of two, as well as additional levels.
-Four base classes have now been expanded into seven.
-10 new PCS items with perks.
-A new system to create your own classes with everything featured above.
Perhaps the most interesting out of this set, aside from the ton of additional content is the ability to create classes. Some of us certainly have our dream soldiers and the Perk Pack seems set to help us create our perfect soldier.
Next up on the block is the Long War Laser Pack. Weapon enthusiasts can rejoice as Long War brings in a new set of weaponry based on the laser weapons in XCOM: Enemy Unknown for use in XCOM 2. Here’s the rundown on what you get with the Laser Pack:
-The Pulse Laser tier becomes available for research and deployment, stationed between Magnetic and Plasma weapons in tech progression.
-Each class of weapon is represented, including SMGs which were introduced to the game in another of Long War Studios’ mods.
-Each weapon features unique textures, sounds, and effects, extending to unique attachments.
If you’ve ever missed the pretty red beams happily cutting your enemies apart on the battlefield, the Laser Pack will scratch your itch. Just don’t scratch too much, lest you get burned. All-in-all, Long War’s two newest contributions are a welcome addition to the war on alien dictatorship.
If these aren’t enough to sate your lust for additional content, have no fear. We’ve got a page chock-full of XCOM 2 mods from find creators like Long War and many others. Have a look for yourself at our favorite XCOM 2 mods!
