When it comes to PC gaming with big titles, it’s often just you by your lonesome and some faceless folks across the internet. This is especially true when it comes to shooters these days. That said, the Gears of War series has always been one best enjoyed with a friend and in the upcoming Gears of War 4, PC players will be able to cozy up to their personal pals if they so desire. The game will be featuring split-screen functionality in the campaign mode.
Discovered by PC Gamer at a recent preview event, Gears of War 4 develop The Coalition revealed a slew of new features, most prominent of which was the addition of the co-op split-screen capability. Director Mike Rayner called it “a labor of love,” citing difficulty in including the feature into the game, but after feedback in which fans asked for split-screen to be included in the Gears of War Ultimate Edition, the team decided it was worth it to undertake the challenge.
Split-screen wasn’t the only new feature announced either. Gears of War 4 will also be getting crossplay functionality that will allow PC players to play with Xbox One players across campaign, horde mode, multiplayer versus AI, and private and LAN-based matches. Online competitive won’t be included in crossplay for the obvious disadvantage Xbox One players get from the lack of an efficient point-and-click interface. That said, it appears to be the sole feature in the game omitted from allowing you and your friends to team up whether you’re on Xbox One or PC.
Given the somewhat choppy launch of the Gears of War Ultimate Edition, The Coalition appears to be stepping up to take Gears of War 4 in all the right directions. At the very least, it would seem like the PC version of the game is getting a lot more support by comparison, hopefully meaning that this will be the Gears of War game PC players have been waiting for.
Gears of War 4 is slated for world-wide release for both Xbox One and PC on 11 October, 2016. With the release looming, a new and explosive launch trailer for the game has also dropped. You can see it below.
