As it's the prequel to this story, why not read our Atelier Firis review?
Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings is the third in the "Mysterious Book" trilogy of Atelier games, following Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book and Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey. Rest assured, we will not be typing all three of them out again in a single sentence. Atelier Lydie & Suelle is the concluding part in the series, and is intended to act as a 20th anniversary celebration of the Atelier series.
From the press release:
"This next installment to the loved Atelier franchise celebrates the 20th Anniversary for the franchise and summons players to become the best alchemist ever by following the tale of the apprentice alchemist twins Lydie and Suelle. While working with their father to make their atelier the best in town, the outgoing twins surprisingly discover colorful worlds by jumping into magical paintings and soon find that the mysterious paintings hold the residual thoughts of their deceased mother. Traveling through different paintings reveals vivid worlds for the twins – from the light tones of the ethereal ‘Heavenly Flower Garden’, with the falling rain of stars, to the gloomy hues of the not so delightful Halloween-inspired ‘The Spooky Forest’."
Atelier Firis, the last game in the series, came out in March this year, so Atelier Lydie & Suelle will arrive exactly one year later. While our JRPG expert Josh wasn't massively impressed he still liked the game, saying that "Atelier Firis certainly lacks the depth that hardcore JRPG fans come to expect from the long-standing genre and hardly taxes the brain with morale decisions, but it gives a relatively safe environment in which to get to know some colourful characters and beat up monsters in some rather impressive ways."
