Strategy games. They seem to be the bread and butter of PC gaming. Between those and arena-style twitch shooters, they were what defined PC gaming and kept it alive during some dark times. So what's another to that long legacy? Here's Deadhold - a gory, co-op take on the RTS genre.
Taking inspiration from titles like Dawn of War 2 and Myth, Deadhold hopes to create a "unique mix of real-time tactics" and wrap them up in a 4-player co-op bow complete with cross-platform play.
Deadhold really doesn't shy away from the inspiration. Despite making special mention of Dawn of War, it's pulling looting mechanics and a heavy emphasis on itemization from action-RPGs like Diablo and Path of Exile, too. What that means is you'll be looking at a fast-paced RTS title with leveling and looting added on, too. Upgrade trees? Probably. The gore is a grand focus, too, with attacks being portrayed as realistically as possible A fine example is the flight of an arrow eventually culminating in it protruding from the limb of its target.
Endless Space 2 Will Fully Launch In 9 Days With Its Eighth Major Faction - The Unfallen
Planned to release into Early Access in July, Deadhold is looking to launch with around 3 of its eventual 16 campaign missions. The focus, it seems, will be on its multiplayer modes ranging from King of the Hill, Capture the Flag and 'Territories'. These sections can support up to around 8 players depending on the choice. For those into 'Horde' or 'Zombie' style modes, there's a single 'wave' map planned for release, too.
Told from the side of the narrator, Deadhold will spin a tale of a dark force rising in the west. Of course, if you're simply looking to see limbs fly, you'll probably want to jump into a couple of online patches from the get-go. Want a deeper look?
