As Japan typically does, they've revealed new information about the growing roster of Dragon Ball FighterZ in a magazine - V-Jump to be exact The latest issue was used to announce that both Captain Ginyu and Nappa will be playable characters. The game also had its Japanese release date confirmed as February 1.
We've been given new Dragon Ball Z games frequently over its entire lifespan - most of which have been arena fighters of some description given the nature of the show. Over time, the rosters have grown colossal in size; but Arc System Works' Dragon Ball FighterZ was looking a little barren in comparison.
Though this news isn't going to appease those hoping for a few more female fighters to take the stage, it should please those who were beginning to worry that the full roster would pale in comparison to games like the Budokai series and the newer Dragon Ball Xenoverse line of games. The franchise has a massive amount of fighters to implement, but character balance is of utmost importance in a 2D fighter that's sure to grow into a competitive scene. Having dozens of characters to balance is sure to cause it's fair share of problems.
Captain Ginyu - known as the leader of Freiza's ruthless mercenary group - borrows the same tag-in system that allows Android 18 to summon Android 17 to aid in certain attacks. Naturally, he'll call in the rest of the Ginyu Force to pummel his opponents. Likely chosen for his unique 'Body Swap' attack, it'll be possible to switch characters (and HP) with his opponent if he's able to pull off the technique.
Nappa, on the other hand, is a far more lacklustre choice when it comes to originality. Though we'd usually expect to see Goku's brother - Raditz - make an appearance, we're getting Vegeta's former right-hand man. Capable of summoning an army of Saibamen to his side, Nappa looks to simply overwhelm his opponents with distractions and a barrage of blows.
Just when we finally got our hands on the last character reveal trailer with Cell, they go ahead and announce two more characters without trailers. That only means we'll be expecting more new character reveals once Captain Ginyu and Nappa get their introduction videos, too. There's hope for more yet!
