A Battlefield 2042 petition asking for refunds across all platforms is quickly gaining traction, following the recent decision to delay the multiplayer shooter’s first season as developer Dice focuses on fixes.
More than 30,000 people have signed the petition at the time of writing, expressing their disappointment with the state in which Battlefield 2042 launched.
“EA’s release of Battlefield 2042 was a mockery of every customer who purchased this video game for $70 (USD) due to EA’s false advertising,” reads the petition.
“Battlefield 2042 has cost consumers millions of dollars in damages and upset thousands of customers worldwide.
“According to many consumer reports, Electronic Arts and DICE did not keep many promises made at launch, and Battlefield 2042 was launched as unplayable.”
The petition then goes on to mention how Battlefield 2042 is still plagued by many bugs and issues that have led members of the community to consider it an unfinished product.
Indeed, this sentiment was widely shared across online forums since launch day. The game’s departure from a traditional class system alongside poor performance and map flow were only some of the issues that led to disappointment among the series’ fans.
The jump to 128 players also came packaged with poorer map flow and very unstable performance, while features like scoreboard or VoIP were missing from the game’s launch version.
After a period of silence, developer Dice announced it was delaying the game’s first season until early Summer while continuing to work on fixing the game.
Soon after, publisher Electronic Arts confirmed Battlefield 2042 didn’t meet its sales target.
Battlefield 2042’s player numbers are also seemingly dwindling. On Steam, the newest entry in the series has trouble competing with the two titles that preceded it in terms of concurrent users.
Whether or not the petition will actually lead to Battlefield 2042 refunds being offered freely across all platforms remains to be seen, but Steam users have reported being able to receive refunds for the first-person shooter even after no longer being eligible.
