Earlier this month, we were wowed by BLACKWOOD’s reveal trailer and its promise of taking us into New York circa 2012’s shady fictional underworld as an assassin who works a DVD shop during the day. John Wick comparisons aside, it’s a killer pitch (pun intended), so we’re happy to see more of the project with an alpha gameplay trailer.
AttritoM7 Productions, the studio behind tactical FPS Zero Hour, dropped this second look at its game on October 20. According to the press release, the fresh trailer follows Anton Blackwood during the game’s prologue section. You can watch it below:
That’s a lot of cover-based shooting, headshots, ruthless executions, and melee takedowns in a very short amount of time. Needless to say, John Wick and Max Payne fans should be very pleased so far even if the game understandably feels half-baked in some aspects at this stage of development. So far, we applaud the studio’s commitment to giving players uncut gameplay to watch even if there’s a long road ahead.
As a reminder, here are the core features that have been promised:
- Unmatched Takedown System: 30+ contextual finishers, from environmental kills to cinematic executions
- Grounded but Stylish Combat: Responsive movement, third-person cover mechanics, and 30+ unique weapons
- Dual-Life Roleplay: Manage a DVD store by day; take contracts by night
- Authentic 2012 New York: Detailed, immersive world-building
- Cinematic Storytelling: Seamless gameplay-to-cutscene transitions with human, flawed characters
- Original In-House Soundtrack: Music composed and performed by the studio’s band
BLACKWOOD is releasing on PC via Steam at some point of Q3 2026. At the time of writing, no console versions have been announced.
