After teasing it late last year, publisher and developer Revolution Software today unveiled Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Reforged as its next project. The reimagined version of the classic adventure game sequel is slated to release in early 2026 on both PC and consoles.
The success of 2024’s Shadow of the Templars: Reforged prompted the developer to give the second game in its acclaimed series a similar treatment, updating it with 4K visuals and remastered audio while leaving its story and gameplay intact, ready to be discovered by a new audience.
Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Reforged
Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Reforged follows American tourist George Stobbart and French journalist Nico Collard as they travel across Europe, the Caribbean, and Central America, in an attempt to solve the mystery behind the ominously-named Smoking Mirror.
In true classic adventure game fashion, this involves solving plenty of puzzles and outsmarting enemies while exploring the 1997 game’s iconic locations.
Those pining for an extra dose of nostalgia can switch between the original and remastered visuals at the click of a button. The addition of a story mode ensures that subtle hints stave off frustration, but if you’d rather figure things out yourself, the traditional mode allows you to play through the story as we used to do back in the day.
Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Reforged is set to release in early 2026 on PC – its Steam page should go live any minute now –, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Collector’s Editions are “coming soon” to Kickstarter, according to the description of its trailer, which you can check out below.
