Company of Heroes 3’s Opal Scorpion 2.1.0 update releases next week, bringing new maps, cosmetics, and gameplay changes to Relic Entertainment’s real-time strategy game.
No less than five maps are joining CoH3’s roster in its 2.1.0 update, two of them official and built by Relic Entertainment, the remaining three community-designed.

Depicting one of the most famous battles that took place in the North African theater, El Alamein comes to multiplayer as a 2v2 map that supports all game modes. Adapting the map to the game’s real-time strategy format was “kind of a scary notion”, Senior Designer Will Ward said, due to the terrain’s openness and lack of natural cover, which saw the opposing forces employing plenty of long-range weaponry.
Ward explains that he had to take a “completely different approach to how I normally do maps,” starting with “the movement and sight blockers” due to their sparse presence in the desert. These include buildings, anti-tank trenches, and “very few rock formations” and work with the map’s other elements to encourage employing different strategies to achieve victory.
The second Relic-developed map is Gabès Gap. It depicts another clash from the North African campaign while supporting all game modes in a 3v3 format. Its three main components include a beach to the north, desert to the south, and salt flats in the center.
The three community maps Tuscan Vineyards (1v1), Lorraine (2v2), and Red Ball Express (4v4), also support all game modes.
In terms of gameplay changes, Company of Heroes 3’s Opal Scorpion 2.1.0 update makes towing vehicles faster and more responsive. This is achieved by having the gun align faster with the half-track while units instantly enter the vehicle as soon as the gun is hitched to it.
Certain weapons, like the Chaffee Light Tank’s smoke shell , can fire immediately after receiving an order, while leaving the reinforcement radius of buildings or vehicles no longer resets progress towards bringing your squads to full strength.
Breaching charges are now faster to deploy, while grenades deal more damage and have had their radius increased. Several other gameplay changes, including balancing for units belonging to all four factions, are planned and you can find a detailed breakdown in the video embedded below.
In addition, CoH 3’s Opal Scorpion 2.1.0 update also introduces the following four cosmetic sets, obtainable by spending either Merit or War Bonds.
- US Forces - Amphibious Assault
- Wermacht - War Torn
- British Forces - Desert Rose
- Deutsches Afrikakorps - Desert Cats
Company of Heroes 3’s Opal Scorpion 2.1.0 update is slated to go live on June 24, 2025.
