Diablo 2: Resurrected's patch 2.5 is meant to revitalize the game during the second half of 2022, accompanying the action-RPG's second season. Its release date is fairly important to both players grinding through Season 1 and those looking to hop in as soon as it lands.
Having made its way to the PTR on August 25, 2022, we now know that Diablo 2: Resurrected's patch 2.5 is set to introduce new content to the ARPG in the shape of the new Terror Zones feature. In addition, testing being underway usually signals that its release date shouldn't be too far off, either.
Diablo 2: Resurrected Patch 2.5 Release Date
Terror Zones act as an alternative way of getting to level 99, in case farming good old Baal and company ever gets tiring. If the feature is enabled in your game, you'll see such zones popping up in certain areas every hour, increasing the level of monsters and, in turn, the experience gained and loot dropped.
While the patch was on the PTR, Community Manager PezRadar shed some light on the matter of why announcing Diablo II: Resurrected patch 2.5 release date was taking longer than expected in a forum post.
- Diablo II: Resurrected Patch 2.5 release date: 25 August, 2022 (PTR); September 22, 2022 (live servers)
"Before S1 began, we had noted that we were aiming to have seasons last 4 months. We are obviously past that timeline and to be 100% honest, we kind of didn’t plan very well on our end for that date," the post reads.
"Terror Zones was a cool feature we wanted to nail correctly as it teetered back and forth on the line of 'Should we do this or not?' many times throughout development and with that it caused a little bit of a delay on the Season transition."
Plans were in place to end PTR testing "soon," after which we expected the patch to hit live servers. On September 19, testing reached its conclusion. The developer announced that Ladder Season 2 was set to kick off on October 6.
Diablo II: Resurrected patch 2.5's release date turned out to be September 22, 2022, when it finally made its way to live servers. Check out the full patch notes on the developer's website.
