Europa Universalis 5 has locked in the release date for its Fate of the Phoenix Immersion Pack and update 1.2, publisher Paradox Interactive has announced. Slated to launch on May 6, 2026, the pair brings another proper serving of new content for Paradox Interactive’s sprawling grand strategy game.
The Fate of the Phoenix immersion pack is heavily focused on fleshing out gameplay for the Byzantine Empire through the introduction of a new disaster, societal value, the ability to embrace Hellenism, and much more.
Europa Universalis V Fate of the Phoenix and Update 1.2 Release Date
Both Europa Universalis V’s Fate of the Phoenix Immersion Pack and update 1.2 have locked down their release date to May 6, 2026, so the wait ahead is rather short.
- Europa Universalis V Fate of the Phoenix release date: May 6, 2026
- Europa Universalis V update 1.2 release date: May 6, 2026
Here is a full breakdown of the key features set to be introduced in the grand strategy game’s first post-launch DLC, as shared by the publisher in an emailed press release.
- Byzantine Bureaucracies: Unique content for the new Bureaucracy system designed for larger imperial powers. Choose to keep the old ways in hopes of restoring the empire or take the risk of discarding centuries of ambition to follow a more modest course.
- Latinitas vs Romanismos: A unique Societal Value for the empire, choosing between a reconciliation with the Latin powers of the west or entrenching Roman heritage.
- Fate of the Phoenix Disaster: Work to reverse the crumbling fortunes of the empire before it gets too late to stop the decline. Choose a clear path, expand quickly, and reform so you can stabilize the ship of state.
- More Orthodox Content: Interact with the Ecumenical Patriarchs, restore the Pentarchy to strengthen the Eastern Church, expand Orthodoxy to Rome and Mend the Schism.
- Hellenism: Revive belief in the old pagan gods, seeking their favor through the invocation of omens.
- Latin Culture: Embrace a total return to the old Roman roots, taking up the old ways.
- New Art: New portraits, illustrations, city models and unit models for the Eastern Mediterranean inspired by Byzantine history.
- New Flavor Content: New events, military units, character-related actions, subjects, and more!
On top of that, Europa Universalis V’s update 1.2, which will be available to all owners of the base game for free, introduces “new mechanics, reworks to the economy, military, diplomacy and AI, and new content for the Orthodoxy and the Balkans,” alongside “over 2,000 fixes.”
Europa Universalis V’s Fate of the Phoenix and update 1.2 release date comes later than originally announced. This shift led to the other content planned as part of its premium edition also being delayed.
As reflected on its Steam page, the next immersion pack, Across the Pillars, is expected to drop between July and September 2026. The third DLC, the Auld Alliance Chronicle Pack, is now expected to launch in early 2027.
