It’s not long now until Gears 5 pits players once more against the Locust hordes. Alongside its single-player campaign, the title will come with a number of online modes, including the newly announced Escape, and will also feature an online lobby browser.
Gears of War Multiplayer Design Director Ryan Cleven revealed over on Twitter that Gears 5 will feature a lobby browser as part of its online lobby system. It will be available in all of the game’s online modes.
Gears 5 Online Lobby Browser
The inclusion of an online lobby browser in Gears 5 is, undoubtedly, good news for players eager to jump into its multiplayer modes. The image posted to Ryan Cleven’s Twitter account, which you can find below, uses the new Escape mode as an example.
The name, map, game status, difficulty, ping and number of players for every different lobby are shown. It’s also probably safe to assume that players will be able to sort lobbies by these criteria. Since the online lobby browser will also be available for other online game modes, that should make Gears 5’s multiplayer experience smoother, especially when it comes to jumping into servers with custom rules, provided the option will be there.

In case you missed it, The Coalition announced during E3 2019 that Gears 5 would be getting the brand new Escape mode added to its multiplayer side. The mode is built around three-player co-op gameplay, focusing on a team of Hivebusters tasked with evading from the center of a Locust Hive and taking it down in the process.
Gears 5 is headed to the PC and Xbox One, launching on September 6 for owners of the Ultimate Edition and September 10 for everyone else.
