As the Good Old Games (GOG) library expands in 2026, it offers a convenient platform for purchasing and playing classic PC games, from the DOS/Win98 era to the mid-2000s. In addition to exclusive titles, GOG offers a growing collection of free games each month, making it the best destination for retro gaming fans.
Last year’s selection on GOG featured a diverse array of games, including major AAA titles, unique indie games, and titles from the DOS and Win98 Eras. Highlights included Mordheim: City of the Damned, Figment, Alwa’s Awakening, Deep Sky Derelicts, Final Liberation, Sunblaze, Crusader Kings 2, Sigma Theory, Betrayer, King’s Bounty: The Legend, and Styx Shards of Darkness.

What's free on the GOG Store in 2026?
GOG doesn’t give away free games too often; we usually see more than a dozen given away in a year. Notably, these giveaways mostly occur during sale events, such as the Summer Sale and the Halloween Sale, so you may see more activity on this page during those months. For example, it’s not nearly as frequent as the Epic Games Store.
To access these free titles, set up a GOG account, navigate to the storefront’s section dedicated to free games, and proceed as if making a regular purchase.
You will need to add the games to your cart, but they are free. Remember, to claim these games for free, you must add them to your library within their designated free period, typically 48 hours.

Chicken Assassin: Reloaded was the correct freebie for this week, as part of GOG’s Christmas giveaway, not Silence as was originally reported.
Chicken Assassin is a fast paced action-RPG with an outrageous storyline filled with over-the-top humor that boasts a myriad of colorful enemies and visually stunning levels and environments. Prepare to give your hand an intense workout as you battle a slew of eclectic adversaries and encounter special bosses in this frenetically action packed game!
The Whispered World Special Edition
The Whispered World is a classic point-and-click adventure, first released in 2009 by German developers Daedalic Entertainment. If you remember the Discworld adventure games, it’s got a similar style. Thanks to Billbil for the heads up.

The Beast Inside
The Beast Inside is a twist on thriller and survival horror. The game mixes story-driven adventure with an unnerving survival horror experience. Thee game is a tale of long-buried secrets, personal tragedies, and madness. Play as two protagonists living in different centuries but bounded by dark heritage.
FlatOut
Drivers were thrown across the track, shattered fences, mangled cars, exploding tire walls, and that’s just the first corner. Hammerting
Hammerting is a vertical dwarven mining colony sim with RPG elements. With conflict raging on the surface, the Dwarves pledge to delve deep and as master craftspeople, will produce and supply what is needed to support their allies. From humble beginnings, you start with a handful of Dwarves who need to set up their operations quickly. However, as you progress, your small clan will expand and become known throughout the Overworld for their skill and premium craftsmanship.
Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War
Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War brings you to a world of terror and violence with the first turn-based 4X strategy game set in the Warhammer universe. Face challenging AI or cooperate or compete with friends and strangers across the globe.
Shadows: Awakening
Shadows: Awakening is the new adventure in the Heretic Kingdoms saga. After the members of the secret council known as the Penta Nera are assassinated, their souls are consumed by the Devourers – evil demons who possess the ability to absorb the memories and personalities of the souls they acquire and materialize them as their puppets.
The First Templar - Special Edition
The First Templar follows the story of two main characters – a French Templar, and his companion, a noble lady who has been proclaimed a heretic. Taking control over these two unlikely allies, the player must uncover the mysteries behind the Templar Order, play a role in a grand conspiracy, and discover the secret of the Holy Grail. Tropico 4
Tropico 4 expands on the gameplay of the previous game with new political additions - including more superpowers to negotiate with, along with the ability to elect ministers into power to help get your more controversial policies passed. But remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer as everyone has an agenda. Your political mettle will be thoroughly tested, as new natural disasters will have the populace clamoring for you and your cabinet to help them recover from some of the worst Mother Nature can dish out.
Once Upon a Jester

Best friends Sok & Jester devise a mischievous scheme to steal the Royal Diamond. To complete their master plan, they must start an improv theatre show and outperform every other act - including their rivals, Hofnar & Bok. Only becoming the best show in the kingdom will get them invited to the Royal Theatrical Spectacle in the Royal Palace, where the king keeps his precious gem.
Return of the Phantom
Free on the GOG Store: 31 October - 3 November
As Inspector Raoul Montand, you are the only one who can pursue the Red Death into the past and prevent him from terrorizing the present. This point-and-click adventure originally released by MicroProse in 1993 features a fully voiced cast of characters with fluid animations, a tense and thrilling story penned by James Bond novelist Raymond Benson, and an atmospheric soundtrack that sets the perfect mood for this new take on a classic story.
