Gone Home and Tacoma developer Fullbright has unveiled Springs, Eternal as its next lo-fi, first-person narrative exploration game during today’s PC Gaming Show Most Wanted showcase.
The title sees us walking the moonlit paths of Stillwater Springs, “a secluded, dreamlike and eerie retreat nestled deep amongst the fog-shrouded pines,” whose secrets we gradually have to uncover.
Springs, Eternal Lo-Fi Narrative Exploration Game Announcement
Pools, caverns, and various other attractions are only one part of the exploration puzzle. We’ll also get to interact with “over a dozen unique characters,” using branching dialogues for the first time in a Fullbright-developed game to find out what brought them to Stillwater Springs.
The figures we’ll encounter include “the philosophers engaging in a debate that could last a lifetime; the tattooist waiting to inscribe you with your future; the old men, the widow, the young lovers,” and more.
Exploring certain parts of the world can unlock new dialogue options and guest interactions elsewhere, rewarding curiosity.
More importantly, Springs, Eternal, also lets us “piece together the humanistic and deeply heartfelt memory of the romantic relationship” that prompts the protagonist to visit the retreat.
We’ll experience flashbacks that “create a portrait of two people, their life together, and who they’ll become.”
According to its publisher, Springs, Eternal is a short game, taking between two and three hours to complete. Observation and curiosity play important roles in discovering everything its world has to offer.
Its lo-fi graphics and retro-inspired audio design ooze 90s-era atmosphere, and, while it broadly looks like a heartfelt, relaxing experience, the trailer below suggests that venturing into the darkest corners of the woods could see us running into supernaturally infused danger.
Springs, Eternal is currently in development for PC, aiming for a 2026 release.
