Publisher THQ Nordic and developer Alkimia Interactive have announced, in a new trailer released today, that Gothic 1 Remake’s release date is now locked in to June 5, 2026.
In just a few months, we’ll get to return to the troubled Kingdom of Myrtana and experience the first chapter in the classic RPG series just as its original entry celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Gothic 1 Remake Gets June Release Date
“The Gothic 1 Remake’s primary objective has always been to recreate that raw, unforgettable magic of the original – the gritty camp vibes, the living open-world, the rough language, the unforgiving wilderness, and that nameless, no-hero outsider feel that made Gothic a cult legend 25 years ago,” reads a post accompanying Gothic 1 Remake’s release date trailer.
“The developers at Alkimia Interactive poured endless hours into tweaking every detail to bring back the original atmosphere of the Valley of Mines—the meatbug ragout à la Snaf, the piercing battle cry of a scavenger, annoying Mud—everything is in its place.”
From the very start, Gothic 1 Remake’s stated goal was to faithfully recreate the classic RPG while modernizing its rougher bits, like its combat system, which was quite notorious for how challenging it could prove.
Although the original has very much retained its charm over the years, grappling with its control scheme and difficulty spikes can prove to be quite a rough experience for newcomers.
The remake follows the original’s storyline while aiming to stay as faithful as possible to its atmosphere and, now, we only have a few months left before we’ll get to step back into the shoes of the Nameless Hero and see whether or not developer Alkimia Interactive has succeeded in doing so.
Gothic 1 Remake releases on June 5, 2026, when it arrives on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Pre-orders for both its standard and collector’s edition are available on the THQ Nordic store.
