Democracy is under siege once again in Helldivers 2 as new Illuminate enemies have emerged from the Meridian Singularity, but fear not, as the new weapon customization system is set to make Super Earth’s troops even stronger.
The new live event which is taking place inside Helldivers 2’s ongoing online conflict was announced on May 13 with a new blog post and a trailer you can watch below:
The Illuminate have set course for Super Earth, and they must be stopped by all means necessary. The big problem? New foes like the Stingray jetfighters and the Crescent Overseer give the Helldivers plenty of trouble. Fresh reports also talk of “a failed Illuminate experiment called the Fleshmob: a Frankenstein’s monster of Voteless parts turned into a brute battlefield force.” This update also teases even larger squid ships, signaling the invaders might save their biggest weapons for later.
For now, however, Helldivers are getting reinforced with an all-new weapon customization system. Primary weapons now have “levels achievable by completing missions, which then unlock new attachments obtainable through Requisition.” Patterns are also unlockable through this system, and it’s been teased that a new Master of Ceremony Warbond is coming on May 15.
Last but not least, the Superstore has received an “expanded surplus,” meaning you won’t need to wait for items to return to rotation.

The full patch notes for this ‘Galactic Emergency’ update are available on Steam, but here’s a quick rundown:
- Weapon customization: “With the new Weapon Customization system, you can now tailor your favorite weapons to match your combat style and preferences once you’ve progressed and unlocked different attachments.”
- New Illuminate enemies: Stingray jetfighters that provide Illuminate support from the sky, Crescent Overseers that lay barrages on Helldivers in cover, and Fleshmob abominations “made up of Voteless parts turned into a brute battlefield force.”
- Weapon balance pass to accommodate the customization system: Spread, Drag, Sway, Melee weps stamina cost, Shrapnel spawning (R-36 Eruptor, G-6 Frag Grenade & AC-8 Autocannon), and raw Fire damage are all affected.
- Crash, hang, and soft-lock fixes.
- Miscellaneous weapons and stratagems fixes.
