Masters of Albion’s release date brings us the latest god game from legendary designer Peter Molyneux, aiming for a “bold reimagining” of the once popular genre. Below, we break down everything known so far about Masters of Albion, including its supported platforms, gameplay details, trailers, and more.
Revealed during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live 2024 showcase, Masters of Albion is an open-world strategy god game that takes elements from Molyneux’s iconic titles from the 90s and 00s, such as Dungeon Keeper, Black and White, and Fable. Blending nostalgia with a modernized approach to the god game genre, it is shaping up to be one of the more ambitious projects in recent memory.

Speaking to IGN, Molyneux confirmed that “what we’ll be releasing into early access will be chapter one, and it’s going to take us quite a few years to get to chapter three,” pointing at Masters of Albion being envisioned as part of a trilogy.
“But this chapter one, it has a story. It starts as a classic story of a hero coming and finding his power. There was an adversary who was doing something awful. There was a confrontation. […] There’s going to be love, loss, hate, and betrayal in that first episode of the story. So it is a complete game. We are just thinking bigger rather than, right, this is the game. That’s it. We’ve always been thinking about this bigger story.”
Masters of Albion Gameplay
Masters of Albion’s gameplay forges its god game formula by tapping into aspects belonging to different genres.
Playing as a god – or, rather, one’s floating, eerily big hand –, caring for a settlement and its inhabitants, you can place separate building blocks to create and edit structures as well as design equipment using individual pieces.
Dragging followers around and assigning them to specific tasks is also possible. If your production buildings need a boost, just wiggle your hand at them and they’ll work more efficiently.
Masters of Albion’s gameplay is split into two sections. Daytime brings relative peace, giving you a chance to focus on building up an economy, equipping your followers with the right items, and shoring up defenses.
Nighttime unleashes swarms of enemies that you’ll need to fend off using both magical god powers and possessing your heroes. The latter shifts gameplay from an isometric perspective into third-person, where you hack and slash away at foes, adding a new layer to the game.
Tasks like escorting worshippers further add to the challenge, and there’s a good chance that Masters of Albion taps into other gameplay elements developer 22cans is keeping a surprise until launch.
Masters of Albion Price and Platforms
Masters of Albion has yet to reveal its price. We do, however, know that it is headed exclusively to PC via Steam Early Access. It is currently unclear when or whether we can expect it to arrive on consoles, but we should hear more on both matters over the coming months.
