As we all try to brave the seemingly endless onslaught of cool games of all sizes during the final stretch of the year, we’re also missing PC-only releases that quietly make waves. Now, it’s the MMO-inspired (but smartly sized) Fellowship that’s climbing up Steam’s global top sellers ladder after launching last week, and we think we know why.
Though Chief Rebel had already shared a public demo with the world a while ago, many MMORPG aficionados have been quite surprised by this Steam Early Access release which aims to hit the sweet spot of old-fashioned, World of Warcraft-inspired high-level dungeon runs. Blizzard’s online behemoth still can stay afloat just fine, but it’s true many veterans have moved on or just seek co-op thrills much closer to the original endgame experiences. Fellowship aims to feed that exact kind of MMORPG player… as well as the more curious gamers.
So far, the game’s user rating is firmly staying at ‘Very Positive’ despite some server and connectivity woes. We personally can confirm it’s been a blast so far… when it works like it should. Again, this is a green early access release, so such hiccups are to be expected. But the core experience feels both familiar and fresh, and by dropping exploration and non-dungeon grinding altogether, Fellowship quickly becomes its own unique thing.
And if you’re worried about the longevity of such an experience, it appears Fellowship was built from the very beginning with endless replayability (as long as you enjoy the core loop, of course) in mind: “Each boss has unique and varied mechanics, for a fresh experience every run. Enemy skills grow as difficulty increases and additional modifiers continue to challenge players as they grow and improve.”
Fellowship is currently selling for $22,49 exclusively on Steam, with a limited-time 10% off introductory offer. The price will likely go up when it exits early access in six months or so, according to Chief Rebel.
