The Outer Worlds is the upcoming FPS/RPG hybrid from the creators of Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian, and it looks like just the right combo of weird, wacky, and grim for it to bring back memories of their beloved Fallout release!
The Outer Worlds RPG has got a dash of Borderlands to it, too, though without resorting to the apparent outlandishness of the legendary looter-shooter. Instead, Obsidian seem to be drawing upon their strength as great storytellers, and The Outer Worlds is the result.
A new Obsidian FPS RPG hybrid is a markedly different project from what we've been seeing them develop over the past few years: CRPGs are a far cry from whatever sort of adventure The Outer Worlds is looking to be.
That said, it does seem like the logical next step for Obsidian to take, following them being acquired by none other than Microsoft, and so we're now going to be looking forward to a proper AAA Obsidian game, and one that takes us to the very edge of the galaxy, no less.
The pitch for The Outer Worlds may sound vaguely familiar: "As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds."
