We’re not short on survival-and-crafting video games which throw players into vast open worlds, but few manage to really impress beyond dazzling aesthetics. With StarRupture, the devs behind Green Hell (one of the great ones) aim to put their own spin on open-ended space adventures.
The first-person co-op game, which is currently set to launch on Steam via early access on January 6, 2026, has already had single-player tests, but it’s now preparing for a bigger co-op playtest coming on December 3. Players can now sign up via the game’s Steam page and pray they’re lucky.
“Explore a mysterious planet in an ever-changing open world torn by recurring cataclysms. Build a complex industrial system to extract resources, produce goods and expand your base. Fight against hordes of alien monsters to defend your base and survive, alone or with friends.”
You can watch the ‘co-op playtest announcement trailer’ below:
But which are StarRupture’s unique features? According to Creepy Jar (the indie studio making it), it’s all about a heavy focus on not just base-building and exploration, but optimizing ever-growing factories and surviving a world (Arcadia-7) that’s victim to “repeated cataclysms” and periods of extreme temperatures which make the alien threats look insignificant.
Creepy Jar has also made sure to craft an experience which can be enjoyed solo and doesn’t penalize players who don’t want to (or can’t) team up with a recurring group. It won’t be long before we can absorb the full early access vision, and we’re now wondering whether StarRupture may be one of 2026’s first hits.
