Outriders promises a good dose of explosive sci-fi action when it launches later this year. Since teaming up with other players is part of the game’s core experience, crossplay and cross-saves are both topics that pop up frequently.
Co-op titles especially benefit from cross-platform support since it doesn’t force friends to buy the game on the same platform and increases the potential player base from which it can draw while matchmaking. Thankfully, Outriders developer People Can Fly has shared good news on this front.
Outriders Crossplay Support
“Outriders will Fully support cross-play, meaning you will be able to explore Enoch with any of your friends on any other platform. You can play Outriders from start to finish with your friends regardless of what system they own,” reads a post on the game’s website.
Aside from cross-platform support, Outriders will also feature cross-saves, although it won’t be as generous with this feature. “Cross-Save will only work within an eco-system (PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S for example),” the game’s official Twitter account explained in October 2020.
Hours before release, Square Enix and People Can Fly announced that disconnects will likely occur during Outsiders crossplay matches, due to unsynchronized code. Here’s how they explained the issue:
- In preparing the Day 1 builds for PC and Consoles, we discovered a desynchronization between the PC and Console code. This results in a backend mismatch which causes players to be kicked out of a multiplayer game that includes both Console and PC players.
- We are treating this issue with the highest priority and we are working on patches that will synchronize all platform code, which will resolve these issues.
- Steam & Epic can successfully play together.
- PlayStation and Xbox players can successfully play together.
Automatic matchmaking between PC and Consoles has been turned off until the issue is fixed. Players on different platforms can still invite each other into matches using invite codes but “one player will eventually be kicked out of the game,” which is why the publisher and developer recommend against doing so until a fix is deployed.
“The fix for this is tied to the overall patches that we are currently cooking up and running through testing,” the official Outriders Twitter said on April 7. “We hope to soon share more news about their release schedule and content.”
We know everyone is very keen to know more about the fix for PC <-> Console crossplay.

At the start of 2021, Outriders was delayed until April. A demo is now available, also featuring crossplay, provided you enable it form the Gameplay tab of its options menu. Its system requirements were also revealed, in case you plan on picking up its PC version.
Outriders is set to launch on April 1 and headed to PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, and Google Stadia.
