When is Physint going to be released? Hideo Kojima is back developing a new action-espionage game as Kojima Productions announced a partnership with Sony’s PlayStation to work on a major new project called Physint that is aiming to “transcend the barrier between movies and games”.
Kojima and his team are pioneers in the genre and have been working with Sony and the Metal Gear franchise for almost 30 years. As a result, there is considerable excitement and anticipation surrounding the development of Physint. However, it’s important to note that the specifics are still in the early stages and relatively raw.
We know that this is a major collaboration between Kojima Productions and Sony’s PlayStation platform. It will combine video games, music, and a film by Sony’s Columbia Pictures. All the actors and actresses from the film will likely feature in the game, too.
If we had to speculate, it would likely be a cross between Death Stranding and the Metal Gear Solid games.
Konami still owns the rights to the Metal Gear Solid franchise, so it won’t be set in this universe. This will be something completely new, a fresh IP for us all to look forward to.
Physint Release Date
Physint is expected to be released in 2030, so it will probably be available on the next PlayStation console.
Physint doesn’t have a release date yet. Still, Hideo Kojima did say that it wouldn’t start production until Kojima Productions has finished its work on Death Stranding 2, which is currently set to release on June 26th, 2025, on PlayStation 5. The PC version will come later.
During PlayStation’s State of Play Event, Kojima went on to say that he’s personally entering the 40th anniversary of his game production career in two years and that he’s confident it will be the “culmination of my work”. We probably won’t start seeing serious developments and progress until 2026.
Kojima recently told the French magazine Le Film Français that Physint will take at least another five to six years before release, putting a release date between 2030 and 2031.
Kojima Productions is indeed involved in multiple projects. They are working on the Death Stranding movie with A24, developing a new video game titled OD, and producing Death Stranding 2 and Physint.
Given the busy schedule, it’s conceivable that Physint might not be released until at least 2031. This raises the question of whether it might coincide with the next generation of gaming consoles, like the PlayStation 6, as Sony says it will “fully support Kojima with all the latest innovations Sony has to offer”.
Expected Release Date: 2030 - 2031
Physint Gameplay and Storylines
The game was recently unveiled to the public, but no gameplay footage or storyline details have been shared yet. Since Konami and the Metal Gear Franchise are not associated with Physint, many view this new game as a spiritual successor to the Metal Gear series.
We can hypothesize that it might blend elements from Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid, though it could also be an entirely new concept from Kojima’s team. We’ll have to wait for more details from the team to get the complete picture of its gameplay style.
“Yes, today, I’m excited to announce that we at Kojima Productions are creating a brand-new action-espionage game,” said Hideo Kojima. “Preparations are underway, but production will begin in earnest after Death Stranding 2. We have strong experience with Sony Interactive Entertainment, having grown the action-espionage genre together for almost 30 years, and while most of our partnerships with Sony in the past have been for games, they also produce music and films, and this will be a cooperative collaboration.”
Check back soon to learn more about Physint’s gameplay and storyline.
