Procedurally generated multiplayer co-op survival adventure, RailGods of Hysterra, launches into Steam Early Access today (Wednesday, May 7, 2025). It’s expected to remain in Early Access for around six to 12 months before the full game launch.
The team welcomes player feedback during this period, and hopes to launch two updates while in Early Access. RailGods of Hysterra is an isometric survival-crafting game for up to five players, though it is also possible to play solo.
A description of the game reads: “In RailGods of Hysterra, the world has been devastated by the arrival of the Great Old Ones – cosmic beings of unimaginable power. As a Dreamer, awoken from the Dreamlands and inseparably bound to your RailGod, you must survive in a reality twisted by madness. Shuttle between the last outposts while exploring gloomy, mysterious landscapes haunted by sinister cultists and nightmarish creatures inspired by Lovecraft’s narrative universe.”
As the name suggests, you will be in charge of your own locomotive, with the twist that your train is alive. You will need to develop your moving base, adding new carriages and modifications, allowing you to take on bigger and stronger bosses as you receive new Dark Arts from the RailGod. You’ll not only face monsters when you make stops, but beasts will attack your RailGod, meaning you must always be ready.
RailGods of Hysterra is only planned to be released on PC for now, but the team is looking to release it on other platforms in the future.
A demo launched late last year and received praise from players who enjoyed getting snuck into this snippet of gameplay. However, the demo appears to no longer be available in the run-up to the Early Access release. While gaming might be overrun with survival-crafting games at the moment, it seems that RailGods of Hysterra is one to watch.
