Star Wars: The Old Republic continues to thrive with a dedicated community and a new developer in the form of Broadsword after BioWare moved on to focus on other projects. Before the end of the year, the 7.8 “Pursuit of Ruin” update will arrive and continue the Galactic Threads storyline.
A rather long livestream last week revealed everything veteran and new The Old Republic players should expect from the game in the coming weeks. It’s a long list of stuff which is currently in the works, so if you’re part of the hardcore crowd, you might just want to watch the full thing below:
There’s also an extensive blog post detailing the key features to expect and planned events which will take place soon, but we have a rundown of our own right here:
-
New Galactic Threads story content: “Following the events of the Desperate Defiance, a decisive blow has been delivered to the Hidden Chain, with tensions running high after Mandalore Shae Vizla freed Darth Malgus from his prison.” The long-anticipated new story content will have players joining allies old and new as they seek answers to past betrayals and new threats.
-
New dynamic encounters - Wreckage on Dantooine: The Crash Site Outpost is a new area on Dantooine that level 80 players can travel to and explore. As players clear dynamic encounters there, the respective biomes will level up, offering more encounters to go through and new rewards. This is currently available in the PTS server.
-
PvP Season 9 - Gladiators of the Outer Rim: The next PvP season will begin with 7.8 launch and will run for 16 weeks. It includes new achievements, new rewards including a jetpack mount, and fresh challenges.
-
Life Day, anniversary rewards/sales, and subscriber login reminder: Life Day (Star Wars’ version of Christmas) will begin December 16 and run until January 13, 2026. “Players can throw snowballs, hug Wookiees, and earn rewards including the new Vectron Tinsel Taxi Mount.”
The premium Cartel Market will also receive new items, and sales are promised to celebrate the game’s 14th anniversary between December 16 and January 6, 2026. Expect Double XP events too.
As a reminder, Star Wars: The Old Republic’s base game and original expansions remain free-to-play, with the subscription options giving players a number of boosts and access to all content and the max current level cap. The expansions and level cap are kept even if you don’t remain subscribed, so if you’re only looking to enjoy all the story content and locations at your own pace, grabbing at least one month of premium access seems like a sweet deal.
