The Starship Troopers franchise has been enjoying lots of success in recent years thanks to games like Terran Command and Extermination. Now, with those still going strong and plans for a new theatrical movie brewing, Auroch Digital (WH40K: Boltgun 1 & 2) is joining the battle against the Arachnids with Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!
Yes, the exclamation point is part of the title because it sounds more extreme and rad that way, probably. And, after watching the first trailer (check it out below), we agree this could be pretty awesome.
While much of the overall vibe feels familiar and derivative of Auroch Digital’s work on the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the graphical presentation is clearly leaning into the late PS1 level of detail, perhaps even taking things into the early 2000s PC/PS2 shooters with higher aspirations when it came to geometry, but still packing chunky textures. In any case, we love how it’s looking, and those FMV scenes with Johnny Rico himself are a fantastic extra.
But of course, none of that matters if the gunplay isn’t satisfying, and while we personally haven’t played Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! yet, shooting endless bugs in the face with automatic shotguns and advanced futuristic guns is looking a lot crunchier than in past Starship Troopers FPS. Moreover, we’ve learned the player will be able to lead entire squads through the Arachnid hell across a number of iconic locations (plus some new ones).
Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! is a single-player FPS set to arrive in early 2026, and it’s targeting all major platforms: PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and even Nintendo Switch 2. The big retro experts at Dotemu are publishing.
