Friends is in the title so it should come as no surprise that relationships play a large role in the gameplay of Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. These Marriages come in the form of friendships and romances, with an emphasis on winning hearts. In this article will explore the Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town marriage candidates.
In Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town each NPC has 2 statistics you’ll want to improve as you play. The first is Friendship Points that build into Notes (they look exactly like the musical symbols). These denote how friendly you are with that character and unlock new dialogues and events with them. For example, at 4 notes, the town priest will grant you access behind the church.
The second are the Hearts, advanced through Love Points (also known as Affection). These are the key to moving through the relationship stages required to get married. Each eligible bachelor or bachelorette has 8 events that take the player from meet cute through to a proposal, and these are tied to the heart level.
You can see your current heart level whenever you’re in dialogue with the eligible character in question, but to learn the notes and see anybody at a glance, the game menu has a resident relationship tab which shows you every member of Mineral Town.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town Heart Events
The events themselves are not enough to automatically take you to the next stage. For example, the first event, Black Heart 1 can, if you answer correctly, grant you +3000 Love Points, but Black Heart 2 will only trigger if you have over 5000. This difference can be made up with visits and gifts.
Gifts change the Friendship and Love Points by a set amount depending on the recipients fondness for the item and some of these can be inferred from the personality of the character. For example, Gray works in his Grandpa’s forge and loves copper ore, while Ran works in her father’s inn and loves cooked foods. However, be careful what you give as disliked gifts reduce your points instead. You can see when the next heart event is available by the colour.
The events otherwise occur in seemingly random ways and short of having a list of exactly what you need to do (and breaking any sense of immersion) your best option is to essentially stalk your beloved until you hit on the right time and place to trigger the next. This means making sure you visit them in their various locations at different times and different days and not just a single one such as their place of work.
After working through the early events and reaching a Green Heart status, you can confess your feelings by giving your intended a Preserved Flower, but be careful as it will go badly if you don’t have the required hearts. This flower is gained through another series of events beginning in Autumn of year 1 with a morning visitor and a while after this event concludes, another is triggered giving you a Preserved Flower and making them available to buy at the general store.
The next two events are yellow and orange and act as dates for your character. These follow the same format as the others with a dialogue choice to improve Love Points, and lead onto the final heart. This red heart proposal event requires a few special considerations though. You need the largest farmhouse upgrade, the Big Bed, and a Blue Feather you will be able to buy in the general store. With these conditions met you can propose at any time.
Following a successful proposal, there will be a marriage ceremony where the town is invited to watch, followed by your spouse moving in with you. In the case of heterosexual marriage, you will soon see a baby born who will slowly grow up. Be sure to show your love and shower the child with attention.
Rival Hearts
You can’t skip any of these events by just increasing your heart level so you may end up ahead of what you need. That said, it’s still a good idea to keep pushing the heart level as they also affect other game systems, usually in the form of festival events (attending together), and the Rival Heart system. Rival Hearts are what the game itself considers to be an ideal match and exist in a quasi romantic relationship, causing the pair to often be seen together. These Rival Heart events only trigger if your heart level is too low but once done have little to no effect on the player as you can still progress normally.
