World of Warcraft: Midnight’s release date thrusts us into the second part of The Worldsoul Saga, with Xal’atath, having secured the Dark Heart and Dimensius the All-Devouring’s power, unleashing her assault upon the Sunwell and Azeroth at large.
Although WoW’s Midnight expansion sees us returning to familiar places and facing odds that don’t quite seem to be in our favor, it features plenty of new things to look forward to, including the long-awaited, much-requested addition of player housing. Even heroes fighting to stop their world from ending need to rest, after all.
World of Warcraft: Midnight Release Date
World of Warcraft: Midnight is currently targeting a 2026 release, as confirmed during Gamescom 2025, when its cinematic trailer was officially unveiled.

World of Warcraft: Midnight Gameplay
Gameplay-wise, World of Warcraft: Midnight promises a hefty serving of content at release, which is par for the course for the MMORPG’s expansions.
First and foremost, the zone of Quel’thalas, a place we haven’t visited in a while, is getting a series of updates. The new zones of Zul’aman, Harandar, and The Voidstorm then further expand Azeroth’s explorable area, likely being where the bulk of the quests, dungeons, and raids will take us.
Player Housing will fully launch when WoW: Midnight releases, allowing us to own homes and decorate them to our liking using items gained from a variety of activities. Around 50 players can also form public and private neighborhoods. In addition, the Haranir join our efforts as a playable allied race.
A new outdoor activity called Prey adds challenge and opportunity to claim new loot while exploring the open world. It allows us to choose our target and zone alongside one of three difficulty levels. While exploring, we’ll go through a series of ambushes before facing our target and getting cosmetics, titles, mounts, and housing items as rewards, should we best them in battle.
The Demon Hunter class is also finally getting its third specialization. Called The Devourer, this ranged DPS taps into the power of the void to eliminate opponents.
World of Warcraft: Midnight launches with not one, but three raids. Where The Voidspire is described as “a six-boss siege on Xal’atath’s stronghold, where Light and Void clash in spectacular fashion,” The Dreamrift is “a surreal hunt through a realm of half-born nightmares and undreamt gods.” Lastly, March on Quel’danas is a shorter affair that involves defeating 2 bosses.
A series of quality of life features are also planned, including an improved transmog system, nameplate and HUD updates, a cooldown manager that lets us “track auras, debuffs, and external defensives with customizable profiles and sound alerts,” alongside improvements to the combat assistant.
The new player experience is also set to receive changes, offering new players the ability to catch up with The War Within’s story “in just a few hours,” while also benefiting from a streamlined leveling experience that includes story mode raids.
