Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition has received detailed post-launch plans in a new video.
In an X (formerly Twitter) post announcing that the game has now sold over 250,000 copies, developer Firefly Studios also announced that they’re working on two major post-release updates, due in Autumn and Winter of this year, respectively. These updates will add free content to the game, along with paid DLC, with the Autumn update adding a brand new five-mission campaign and CPU opponent to go with it, along with several new maps.
The Winter update, meanwhile, will come with a nine-mission campaign. Paid DLC, however, will also be available with new campaigns and ‘Lords’ (CPU-controlled opponents) to battle against, though further details on those will be coming closer to launch.
Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition is a remaster of 2002’s Stronghold Crusader, itself a sequel to 2001’s Stronghold. In addition to remastering the visuals and gameplay of the original game, the Definitive Edition also adds eight new playable units, four new lords to battle against, and multiple new campaigns - two historical campaigns and four ‘sands of time’ skirmish trails, as well as a co-op trail.
Our reviewer wrote that it was ‘hard not to walk away impressed by both the resources and care put into this remaster, but also by how well its core loop holds up after all these years’, giving the title a 9/10.
