Psychological adventure Sublustrum is making a surprise return as a greatly expanded remake by Phantomery Interactive, the studio behind the original. Here’s everything we know about it so far.
Some players might remember the 2008 game being remade as Outcry or Outcry: The Dawn (different regional titles). The critical reception back then was mixed, yet it quickly gained the status of “cult classic” among PC players who appreciated off-beat point-and-click adventures heavy in puzzles and quiet narrative beats. With this remake, Phantomery is thinking bigger, so we’re collecting every bit of info released so far here, as it could become one of 2026’s sleeper hits.
Sublustrum Release Date
The first trailer for Sublustrum’s remake confirmed we won’t have to wait too long for its arrival if the ambitious development goes to plan.
- Sublustrum release date: fall 2026
Sublustrum Story
Sublustrum follows a writer who’s trying to figure out the disappearance of his brother, a secretive scientist who was working on a strange device and went missing after sending him a written invitation.
Once the writer gets to his brother’s house, he disregards the scientist’s warnings and learns the device can disconnect the mind from the body before traveling to a surreal world “where memory, sound, and dreams intertwine.” You can guess the basics of what happens next.
Sublustrum Gameplay
Whereas the original Sublustrum was a point-and-click adventure with a very simple control scheme, the remake aims to recreate the psychological adventure “in fully explorable 3D.”
The developers are promising free movement through a “photoreal world that blends Victorian melancholy, industrial structures, and early-20th-century retrofuturism.” At the same time, the “dark ambient score” will be part of the gameplay as well as the narrative. Considering how closely tied the game design and storytelling were in the original, this substantial remake (with even more puzzles and more elaborate exploration) might substantially alter the plot too.
Sublustrum Price and Platforms
Sublustrum doesn’t have a price tag yet, and it might be a while before we get news regarding pricing and preorders.
However, we know it’s coming to PC (only Steam confirmed for now) and consoles (we’re assuming PS5 & Xbox Series X/S are locked). Expect updates on this front as new trailers arrive.
Sublustrum Trailers
Only one trailer for Sublustrum is out at the time of writing. It was shared on November 26, 2025, and gave us a moody look at both the grounded and surreal environments we’re being invited into. Watch it here:
