After briefly being teased during this year’s Warhammer Skulls showcase, Sayl, The Faithless is now officially confirmed as the second legendary lord in Total War: Warhammer 3’s Tides of Torment DLC. Leading Norsca into battle, he is a spellcaster who favors treachery and manipulation over fighting in the front.
On the battlefield, Sayl can tap into two spell lores which developer Creative Assembly describes as “a bit of an experimentation” that nonetheless gives the character additional versatility.
Sayl, the Faithless Leads Norsca in Total War: Warhammer 3’s Tides of Torment DLC
As any other Norscan faction, Sayl can occupy settlements or raze and dedicate them to a specific Chaos God. His playthrough, however, revolves around betrayal, and we can “plan, execute, and reap the rewards from your treacheries,” according to Game Director Todor Nikolov.
Total War: Warhammer III’s Tides of Torment DLC also brings new additions to Norsca’s roster. First and foremost, we have Nightmaw, a horrifying creature seen in yesterday’s teaser trailer and which “consists of a few of Sayl’s unfortunate sorcerer pals that got fused into one single entity.” Nightmaw manifests as an ability Sayl can cast when targeting enemies.
In addition, the Fimir Noble is a new hero character who bolsters nearby Fimir. The Norscan ranks also welcome the Chimaera, a three-headed monster (four if you count its tail) described as “a very vicious flying creature, versatile in combat.” Its three heads “possess three different attacks.”
A Norsca race rework is also planned, likely as part of the free update accompanying Total War: Warhammer III’s Tides of Torment DLC. It targets changes to both racial and faction-specific mechanics. The former include altering how the Monstrous Arcanum, Chaos God allegiance, and the dilemmas related to confederations work.
In terms of faction-specific changes, they allow Wulfrik’s signature ship, Seafang, to “provide you with an easier means of transport, crossing distances from port to port,” likely turning the legendary lord into an “ultimate raiding machine.”
Throgg receives an additional mechanic that allows him to use his influence with nearby monsters and call upon them to aid him in his conquests. Appropriately, more monsters are also being added to the Monster Arcanum.
As an additional touch, Throgg and Wulfrik are also receiving fresh voice lines, to bring them closer to the standards of the trilogy’s final entry.
Total War: Warhammer III’s Tides of Torment DLC launches later in summer 2025.
