Following an announcement this summer that a video game adaptation of the sci-fi fantasy tabletop RPG Starfinder was coming, fans were left waiting for the Kickstarter campaign which aims to secure funding for development throughout its early access period. Now, a colorful new trailer is letting everyone know the campaign starts tomorrow, October 7.
“Lead a crew of misfits in this party-based RPG exploring the Pact Worlds, where magic and memes coexist. Your choices shape their destinies.” Yes, you read that right. Memes are a huge part of this universe. Check out the Kickstarter trailer to learn more about the party-based CRPG:
On top of the ‘ragtag team of space misfits’ trope that’s become extremely popular after the success of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies (though it was a thing well before that), Starfinder: Afterlight seems to be bringing in plenty of unique elements of its own, elevating the tabletop experience with a neat mix of very stylish visuals and charm that goes beyond the characters’ designs.
As it stands, the key features that developer-publisher Epictellers Entertainment is highlighting are the following:
- Six unique companions you can bond with.
- Tactical turn-based combat built on Starfinder’s “iconic classes” and Paizo’s three-action system.
- Branching narrative structure, of course.
- 40-60 hours of pure sci-fi fantasy adventure.
Those familiar with recent CRPG hits like Baldur’s Gate 3 will also be happy to learn the voice cast is being directed by Neil Newbon (Astarion). Needless to say, there’s a big overlap between Starfinder fans, veteran RPG players, and the Dungeons & Dragons community, so this is a smart move.
